Technologies: React Native, Android, Python/Django
When it came to choosing Senior Capstone projects, I knew I wanted 3 things: a challenge, to make an impact, and to learn new things. And I managed to find them all!
With a team of 3 other people, I worked with an international point of contact at the World Food Programme (WFP) to built out feature in the second phase of their e-commerce Android app, Maano (or "Virtual Farmer's Market"). I went into React Native knowing close to nothing about it--but in the end built a connected UI (based on the app's existing design paradigms) for 3 features: chat (both individual and group), follower inventory, and a map. As the Frontend Developer, I also designed and prototyped the necessary screens and workflow for the app. As Project Manager, I ensured my team remained on track with our goals and lead conversations with our client in Agile fashion, updating documentation and the project roadmap along the way.
Maano: The app itself was for farmers and buyers conducting business in rural areas (Zambia, specifically).
Chat: Refactored individual chat to work with a structure that also allowed group chats based on specific topics or user locations.
Follower: Not everyone in the target region would have access to a smartphone, so the idea is that there is an Ambassador farmer who maintains business, farming, and transaction details of others in their village, who are referred to as "follower farmers."
Map: Using the Google Maps API, displaying crop, farming, and transaction statistics about locations/regions/districts that users selected.
