Technologies: Unity3D, Aladdin API, C#, Oculus Rift, Leap Motion
A hackathon project that was the cultivation of having a mix of gamers and finance enthusiasts on the team--we were motivated to create a project that catered to everyone's desires. So, we figured we could do a finance based VR game, since we had an Oculus and Leap Motion on hand. The Aladdin API being offered was a bonus - it meant we could use historic stock data and insights for our game. One of our teammates had also been looking into generative maps recently, so we modeled our gameplay around one for an immersive experience.
The general gameplay mirrors that of Minecraft in the players' ability to build and deconstruct trees that represent company stock options. Users put on the Oculus Rift headset which had a Leap Motion mounted on it. They could then move through the VR world with simple hand gestures such as pointing or sticking up their thumb, and make "purchases" or "returns" with grabbing motions. We queried the data from the Aladdin API randomly based on season from the most recent financials available.
